WHY SHOULD YOU COME TO OUR 50TH REUNION?

Posted by mcnary69 on February 23, 2019

Dear Friends,

Some of you might be debating as to whether or not you want to come to our 50th Reunion. That’s understandable… for many of you it might be a long trip, it will cost money, or there may be other important events taking place in your life around our Reunion dates.  And, it just may be that you didn’t feel particularly connected to anyone or any group at McNary, feeling that High School was just something to endure until you could get out and get on with your life.

I would like to present you with some things to ponder regarding our Reunion.

  • It has been 50 years since we graduated from McNary!  Isn’t that incredible?
  • Even if we didn’t participate in any activities, clubs, etc, we still were part of something together.
  • This may be the last time some of us will be given the opportunity to be in one place at the same time! Wouldn’t it be worthwhile to see who shows up?
  • If there are old rivalries, dislikes, feelings that you had nothing in common with anyone…. let the Reunion be a time of healing, resolution and connection. What seemed a big deal in 1969 will most likely be of little to no significance in our lives now. We are different people.
  • Your presence will be missed. It’s true! We want to have as many of us as possible to be there in September to demonstrate that we recognize the significance of our time together at McNary, especially given the times in which we were entering young adulthood.
  • The Reunion Committee is committed to making this Reunion one that reflects what we all ached for back then and still do to this day…. Peace, Love, Harmony and Connection. That’s it. Nothing more and nothing less. We need ALL of you to make this happen. Please join us and “Get Back to Where You Once Belonged.”

We opened registration early so that everyone could make plans, arrange funds, etc, and we did our best to make this affordable.

  • You still have 6 weeks (until June 1) to register for a reduced price of $75/person for ALL THREE SCHEDULED EVENTS!
  • OnJune 1, the price increases to $85/person.

Why register early?  It helps us pay deposits for sites, catering, and other costs associated with our events. We are committed to making sure our vendors, reserved sites etc, get paid, as we want to establish a good relationship with them and uphold McNary High School Alumni as being honorable and dependable.

Remember that we also have the Ride-Share option if you’re concerned about transportation or just don’t want to drive!  We have you covered…..

Below is the Ride Share form –

“Take It Easy Drivers and Easy Riders” …Here’s the link to the Ride Share form:
http://bit.ly/McNaryRideShare

PLEASE remember that we have agreed to give back to our Alma Mater by collecting funds and/or donations of school supplies and backpacks which will be provided to those McNary students whose families cannot provide these things for them. Please do what you can to contribute in some way to this great service project.  How can you do that?

  • When you send in your registration, please send a separate check or write one check that includes an extra amount that you would like to contribute to this project. Please designate the amount you are donating in order for accurate funds dispersal.
  • Purchase supplies based on a list that will soon be posted here and on our Facebook page and bring them to one of our events. We will have a donation barrel at each event.
  • If you are coming to the Reunion, but are unable to attend every event, consider paying for all 3 events but let us know you would like to donate the fees from those events you are unable to attend, to this project.

Any questions, concerns, etc?  Please feel free to email the following folks for answers!

Bruce Chapin – chapin@onlinenw.com

Sandy (Febach) Armstrong – anisarmstrong@gmail.com

You can also post a question on our Facebook page… McNary Class of 69 – we check it daily for questions, comments, etc.

We are also on alumni class.com – McNary 69 alumni.

Looking forward to being with you in September!!

GET BACK – TO WHERE YOU ONCE BELONGED!!

Posted by mcnary69 on August 17, 2018

IT’S OFFICIAL!!  THIS IS THE THEME OF OUR REUNION….

Thanks to everyone who filled out the survey or made suggestions on Facebook for a theme. Now the real work begins as we finalize catering, decorations, music, and plans for just having a GREAT time that will be very affordable, relaxing and as much fun as you want to have!!

The next step is for the Reunion Committee to finalize the Registration Form and prices for the events.  We will also be sending out the link for the Ride Share option (for RIDERS and DRIVERS). Updates will continue to be posted as we keep everyone informed on progress of all the plans, etc.

Again, here’s what is planned so far!!

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 13
Thanks once again to the generosity of our classmate Steve Johnson, we will be gathering  at the Grand Hotel for an informal meet and greet to get things rolling. This will be a very informal event with a no host bar and finger food. It will be very affordable and a good way to get the weekend started!

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 14
A new and unique venue for our Saturday evening gathering will be the Scenic Valley Winery on River Road in Gervais. This is a family owned vineyard and winery right in McNary’s back yard! The reunion members who visited there were impressed with the venue in terms of its location, size, rustic quality, flexible set up as well as the family who own it. We will have a catered meal (more info coming on that!!) and the evening will be a walk down memory lane as well as an opportunity to get caught up with the lives of our fellow classmates while listening to the music we loved in high school. Again, we are working to keep all costs within reason and still have a tasty, enjoyable meal together with plenty of opportunity to dance, etc.

There is also discussion of having one or more events on Saturday morning and/or afternoon, depending on interested parties.  Some ideas have been trips to the Oregon Coast or local wineries, hikes in various locations, with other ideas still being generated! Feel free to share your ideas… either responding below or on our Facebook page.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 15
For our last event of the weekend, we have reserved a beautiful picnic spot at the South Falls of Silver Creek Falls. Folks who wish can hike the trails or just relax and visit. It is a short distance from Salem and the cost to get into the Park is $5 per vehicle, so we are hoping folks will consider the Ride Share option!. Will be a cookout with more details to come!!

Check back often for new updates, which will be posted here and on our Facebook page McNary Class of ’69

Now that our dates are set… make your travel plans.

Hope to see everyone next year!

We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends!

Posted by mcnary69 on August 23, 2011

This last Saturday night, August 20, 33 die hard Celtics came together to celebrate at our community 60th birthday party.  A good time was had by all.

Would you like to see these yearly events continue?  We would like to try and and keep as many of us connected as possible leading up to our next big event – the big 45 – our 45th reunion July 25-27,  2014.  Post a comment here if you have an opinion, suggestion or if you just want to say “Hi.”

We would also like to start using social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, etc to reach even more Celtics who have somehow remained unfound!  If anyone wishes to help out with this, post a comment here and you will be put to work bringing the Class of 69 into the 21st Century!  If you know the whereabouts of any lost Celtics, you can also let us know via the comments section in this post.

Enjoy this group picture from the party, courtesy of Velan Chapin.  Recognize anyone? More pictures to come, so check back soon!
